’87 thought about DJ’n. ’88–’89 bedroom practice with an emphasis on blending. ’89 first gig at Emory University (Atlanta). ’91–’93 internship at Philadelphia FM station WDAS, DJing community uplift events via the station’s outreach “boombox.” ’92 first NYC gig at Columbia University, where grad school also meant hanging at WKCR with Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito. ’94 appearances on WBAI 99.5’s Underground Railroad with DJ Spinna & J-Smooth. ’95 first residency at Bar Six (West Village). ’96–’99 Ludlow Bar, Tramps, 2i’s, Izzy, Opaline, APT—and first HBO events.
From 1998–Aug 2024, Marv worked extensively with HBO events. Since 2012, he’s been a resident DJ at Soho House, with international performances and 700+ recorded mixes reflecting his wide-ranging, meticulously sequenced sound.
