Patrick = Born of noble creed and character - drawn from the latin root patri (think patriarchy) that related to the Roman class system that distinguished the ruling wealthy class from everyone else. It was then taken to Ireland during the roman invasion of the British Isles, from where it has become iconic due to the Christian faith and the patron saint of Ireland being named Patrick.

It was chosen for me because it was a "good strong name" (Mum).

William = To desire and to protect - drawn from Germanic roots. 'Will' - desire and motivation. The second part of the name is said to derive from the Germanic world hehlm which meant helmet and so symbolized protection.

This name has been popular down my mothers side and is a reference to my great-uncle who died in the 1st 'World War'.
