Michael Northam is an American sound artist who lives the mountains of southern Oregon. Michael’s focus with sound and installations is to capture the inexplicable sensation of ‘experience’ as manifested in the medium of sound. This is realized through organic, intuitive sound works in the form of performances, site specific works, compositions and installations.
He has collaborated with many artists throughout his two decade career and has produced works in several different countries. He has composed work for over 20 CDs published internationally. Michael is not an instrumentalist, but a careful listener and painstaking studio craftsman, whose work can range from combining hundreds of layers of material into a complex kaleidoscopic soundscape, or finding sustained moments of field recordings for intricate and intimate interior experiences of listening.
