My name is Frank Boscoe and the name of the show is Friendly Society, after a 90s compilation album of that name that was itself taken from the British name for mutual aid societies a hundred or so years ago. The first 25 episodes (plus episode 0) aired on WRFR-LP (Rockland, ME) between June and November, 2021 and feature a deep dive into the music of a single artist or record label. Thereafter the shows are on Mixcloud only, seven songs a week, one for each today - songs that are memorable, relevant, or recently acquired.

It feels strange to jump from bands that get tens of plays on Youtube to those that get tens of millions. I feel more at home with the former. This was the first episode I recorded at home - my station is encouraging it for covid-related reasons - a…

I guess I talked a lot more than usual in this episode, because I had to drop an entire set of Dear Nora-adjacent bands at the end (YACHT, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, and a few others). I'm thinking about making episode 11 a loose-threads sho…

A few bookkeeping notes. Careful listeners will note that the version of these shows that airs live on WRFR and that I post here are not identical. Inevitably, I end up fading a song or two early on the radio to meet the two hour (actually more like…
