Episode 41 - show notes
I just realized that the last three episodes were recorded at too high of a level, so the audio quality was degraded. I realized it right away, I just thought the problem was with my speakers or something. I'm hoping I can re-record and repost those somehow. The current episode should sound fine, at least.
I choose many of the songs simply because I've heard them in the preceding week and they've stuck in my head somehow. That's the case with the Clyde McPhatter track, which I heard on a show on Maine Public Radio which plays the songs entering the pop charts from 100, 90, 80, 70, 60 and 50 years ago. I think they play everything until the 50-years-ago portion (1972) where they skip rock songs and stick to pop/easy listening - that's when I turn it off.
The Goon Sax, Lost Tapes and Chime School are from my Bandcamp collection.
Panama was a band from Philadelphia that I actually played in very briefly. I highly recommend their sole self-titled album, where this song was taken from. On Discogs they are listed as Panama (25)!
I rediscovered the Galaxie 500 cover of the Rutles song in the last few months and it's stuck in my head, even though there are obviously dozens of better-known Galaxie 500 songs to choose from.
I am playing a show with Sinkcharmer in Troy, New York on April 2, as Frank Boscoe & the Ekphrastics.
