DVDJ Dnesh’s foray into DJ-ing has been quite an unexpected decision. DVDJ Dnesh or Dinesh Kumar, 29, from Penang, was a hype man for clubs seven years ago when he decided to multitask as a DJ.

He began DJ-ing at the age of 22 when he worked with a radio station. “They chose me to be the club hype man so I was hyping at the clubs in Penang and Kuala Lumpur. I didn't really want to DJ but I loved the club scene at that time. I saw other DJs killing it on the dance floor with their techniques. I thought why not I become a DJ, because I can DJ and be a hype man at the same time,” he says.

Now a resident DJ at Soju Sunway, DVDJ Dnesh has performed extensively in clubs and events throughout Malaysia, including a job stint with Hennessey. A DVDJ that controls both audio and video elements, DVDJ Dnesh does a lot of bootlegs and mashups. “I make my own videos and I'm actually really good at making videos to be played
