Hello, I'm George Bradt, the mix maker behind Between Two Islands. I started making these mixes in 2000, inspired by the "downtempo" boom around that time - Thievery Corporation, Air, Kruder & Dorfmeister, and many others. One day when listening to Jill Scott's first album, it occurred to me that a song like "A Long Walk" would fit very comfortably beside my downtempo favorites. And so would tracks from lot of the other music I like: jazz, latin, electronic, soul, retro pop, indie, reggae, film music, and so forth.
This revelation inspired me to make mixes based on mood rather than a specific style or genre (except for the "Dance Music for Listening" mixes, a fun experiment). The tracks are chosen for their rhythm, atmosphere, and surprise factor. The mixes are very eclectic, mostly mid-tempo, and carefully blended using actual DJ gear.
