Greece

Frydo Manthi was lucky enough to be raised in a Greek family which used to sing and play 70’s new wave Greek songs gathered around the Sunday lunch table and the countryside. Her holistic approach to music is been shaped by a fusion of experiences collected in natural, urban & cultural spaces with honorable teachers, friends and inspirational figures. Her close contact with music production and current events as radio producer, journalist and dj expanded her musical perception and perspective. Her forte is interconnecting world folk and jazz from all eras with new music and electronic soundscapes. She is a Turkish lute (lafta) player exploring the rich and complex system of makam music as a founding member of the music quartet ‘Ad Lib’ (2016), performed with "Baharat Collective" (2018/19) and participated in "Stales project", an Edinburgh based open scheme which was focused in instrumental and vocal folk music from Greek mainland and islands.
