Knew I wanted to be a dj around 83. I was at a job picnic function for my Mom.
I was 6 at the time. The dj had had 2 turntables and he was rocking run dmc. Rock house. I stood by him as a youngish and watched him mesmerize the crowd.
Later on that year for Xmas I received a little blue record player. It had a thick 45 platter. I used to play He Man records and attempt to scratch. Master of Greyskull read along book. Also at this time I used to listen to Chuck Chillout and Red Alert on 98.7 Kiss Fm and Marley Marl on 107.5 WBLS Tri State radio stations. It wasn't until later on when I received another stereo. This one was able to play tapes as well. I would use the phono and tape knob to get the effects of a mixer. Every weekend I would record those 2 stations. Later on I would mistakenly run into 89.U. It was a New York College Station that would emphasize more of the scratching and manipulation of vinyl later termed as what we know now as Turntablism.
