The user profile originated with the first social portal, Tsunmai CE Corp, in 1999 for its SharedNetwork subscribers. Tsunami CE Corp recognized early in 1999 tracking data of a person or organization or business would not be sufficient for future connections without implementing all aspects important to the profile to be ePublished. For this reason, Tsunami CE Corp founder Annette Abbott added to the user profile image, video, audio and other uploadable digital media data. Annette Abbott is also responsible for the editing capabilities of the user profile seen on social media today. The user profile is currently offered as a product available for licenisng through Tsunami's parent company, CEhub, Inc.
