“When I was born, I was almost fourteen years old. That's why I was able to understand more easily than most what it was all about.”
― Eugene Ionesco

This is an indie pop / synth-pop / indietronica mix I made in 2007, most tracks from the aughts (2000s). Evoking a high point in electronica-leaning indie pop, the songs still sound fresh and creative.

Tracklist (mix also timestamped):
1. The Orchids “Striving for the Lazy Perfection” 1994
2. Erlend Øye “Sudden Rush” 2003
3. Hot Chip “Colours” (remix) 2008
4. Cheeky Bastid “Friends in the Future” 2003
5. The Field Mice “Missing The Moon” 1998
6. Stars “Set Yourself On Fire” (remix) 2007
7. Sufjan Stevens “Joy! Joy! Joy!” 2004
8. Holland + Jenny Toomey “Varispeed” 1998
9. Efterklang “Step Aside” 2004
10. M83 “Teen Angst” 2005
11. James Figurine “55566688833” 2006
12. Junior Boys “In The Morning” (remix) 2007
13. Montag “Natacha Miracle” 2007
14. New Order “Ecstasy” 1983
15. Lali Puna “Lowdown” 2001
16. Gui Boratto “Beautiful Life” 2007

Lovely. In 1994 I was in the north of Canada and reliant on Brave New Waves on the CBC to introduce me to new sounds - The Orchids somehow passed me by so cheers for a very late intro:)

So glad you enjoyed it! I listened to the CBC in Detroit, although I don't think I realized until the last year of high school that we could access CBC over the river from Windsor. I discovered The Orchids, and really expanded my horizons, as a college dj in the early 90s... Thanks for listening and for the comment!

@Vodem Really enjoying this! And I used to love Brave New Waves as a window on some great music I wasn’t listening to.

Urbanism // DF

Fascinating Stars remix. To share a mildly tedious anecdote, they were once doing an AMA on Twitter and I asked if they genuinely knew someone who lived on the second floor on Camden Road [in London], as I lived nearby at the time. They said it was where their UK record label was based ☺️

coffee with the boss

Shock Corridor

Thank you for sharing this infectious mix! You just made me realize that I need more Lali Puna in my life. And wow, hadn't heard that hollAnd track in ages... so catchy! Bravo!

Vodem

So glad you dug it! Yeah, there was an interesting moment in the early aughts with several German electronic oriented indie rock bands, like Lali Puna, The Notwist, and Ms. John Soda. But I think Lali Puna is probably the most timeless of those groups. Thanks for listening and for your comment. Much appreciated!

Between Two Islands
