Shadow Skin: A Transnational Psychedelic Summoning

Shadow Skin: A Transnational Psychedelic Summoning

00:00

A transnational séance in sound. Moving through avant-garde folk and choral music, experimental electronics, devotional fragments, and ritual atmospheres, mostly from Europe, this mix traces a passage between worlds. It is inspired by my grandmother’s family, spiritualists who held séances in Puerto Rico into the 1940s. My mother told me that my grandfather—whom I resemble physically—was believed to have powerful potential as a medium, though he always resisted the role. Shadow Skin is an attempt to connect with that spiritualist tradition through music: to enter a space between waking and dreaming, to follow voices across borders and generations, and to summon ancestors to help guide us through these troubled times.

If it pleases, play with candles in a darkened room.
