The U.P.S. (Underground Preservation Society) was a Hip-Hop mixshow-talkshow airing from Hampton University's WHOV from 1992 - 1997 performed by D.J. Seko VArner ! The show began as a Hip-Hop / R&B / Old School mixshow that aired for an hour each Friday night on WHOV 88.1 FM under the Station Manager Frank Shefield under the name "The Positive Vibes Mix". It continued in that vein under station Manager Jay Wright although it took a decidedly Hip-Hop based front under Jay Wright's management in 1994 becoming a test market for new Hip-Hop releases before these songs would enter consideration for a normal rotation. Seko began adding local artists into the mix and later began adding elements of African-Centered speeches and motivational messages into the mix of Hip-Hop and Hip-Hop-Jazz that wouldn't receive normal radio airplay. After returning from the Million Man March in October 1995 Seko added talk-show segments into the show.
