Born South African in 1970, I grew up in the era where music was testimony, coded resistance against propaganda, carrying truth through meaning. From family parties to mixtapes, my passion became a craft of honouring artists and protecting their legacy. In 1987, I won my 1st DJ comp and became a Jazz Club resident. Later, I became SA’s 1st House Club DJ at the nation’s only non‑racial nightclub during Apartheid. Owning the 1st black SL‑1210s became instruments of Black freedom — steel turned sound, sound turned liberation. Airfreighting vinyl from UK stores, playing 27 of the Top 40 House tracks months before local release ,testimony that freedom was carried in sound before it was carried in law.
