The Mixing Zone

Hi Steve, awesome to hear another Deep Ten set from you. As others have said, the flown and transitions are first rate! I really liked Heron with the amazing synths, and Sunshine with the sounds of nature. The final Tilman track is awesome too - love the vocal in that one. Hope you have a super weekend mate

Steve James

Thank you Tim! ... I know you do enjoy a bit of deep house, so I'm glad you liked this one ... Palms Trax has put out some incredible house tunes with that classic 90's sound ... lots of synths, just how I like it!! ... Tilman is a class act too ... Will be keeping an eye on your page for something fresh ... Have a great weekend mate! 😎🎧🎵

Photo - Hong Kong ... I feel like you're speaking directly to me! I can't wait to take this mix along with me when I go for my daily long walk along the Victoria Harbour promenade by my flat in Sai Ying Pun all the way down to Kennedy Town and back. Perfect soundtrack for that. What I don't finish now will save it. Mmmm, that Tony Lionni - Take Me With You track is a revelation ... pocketing that one for sure. Noticed on all your sessions I've Listened to thus far your sequencing is just flawless mate. And you are placing your tracks in exactly the same places I would have chosen to put them as well. A true craftsman! 🙏❤️🙏

Steve James

Haha what's up Aaron! ... Well when I chose the image for this set, it reminded me of your recent message saying you were walking through Sheung Wan and Lan Kwai Fong ... and of course LKF is one of the main nightlife spots in the city ... I like long walks along the Avenue of Stars watching the "Symphony of Lights" at 8pm. That was one of my favourite activities when I was in Hong Kong ... It's usually quite a chilled vibe around Tsim Sha Tsui in the evening. It's one of my favourite parts of town ... My wife used to live around the Hung Hom area a few years back ... Anyway I hope you enjoy the long late night walk!! ... I do the same on The Bund in Shanghai, with the Oriental Pearl Tower and Lujiazui skyline as the backdrop ... very relaxing!! ... Tony Lionni is a wizard on the production tip, so you know I had to drop in the sublime "Take Me With You" ... It's not a new track, but just like fine wine, fine music gets better with time ... You're welcome to pocket as many tracks as you want! ... I always insist on timestamping every track, not only to help promote the artist, but to help other DJ's who may wish to purchase the track ... and it's also nice to let the casual listeners know what they are listening to ... I'm also glad you noticed that I do in fact pay attention to phrasing and sequencing the tracks to make the mix sound very neat and tidy! ... Just like you, I'm not really the kind of guy to just switch on and press record, and play any random tracks in any random order ... that works much better for live gigs with a crowd. Everything should be "on the fly" with clubs and outdoor events, but with radio and online streaming, I personally believe that putting in the effort to prepare the best possible set does pay off, and the result sounds far far better. Attention to detail is important for me ... or maybe it's just because I'm a virgo and we are apparently "perfectionists" !!!! 😂😂😂 ...... But I do take great care to choose the right tracks, arrange them in a cohesive manner, and make sure everything is phrased correctly ... I prefer not to have the melodies of two tracks clashing, as it can sound wack ... but I also don't like having too long between the end of the melody on one track and the beginning of the melody on the next one ... It can sound sloppy, and the set loses momentum ... so I do pay a lot of attention to bringing tracks in at the right time, and not having lots of melodies clashing ... The reason being, once you post a set, it will be online for a very long time to come ... and you can't really go back and fix the mistakes ... Sure, you could delete it and repost again after the mistakes have been tidied up, but that is painstaking, and tbh very amateurish ... so it's best to get the mix absolutely perfect before even considering uploading it ... then once everything is on point, let the public hear it!! ... I know you are exactly the same as me, because you pay so much attention to the fine details, and that's why you get so much love from the listeners ... quality will always be more important than quantity!!!!! ... Anyway, I appreciate the fact you noticed this in my sets ... that means the groundwork paid off!!! ... Once again, thank you for tuning in, and I am very happy you enjoyed the ride. I very much look forward to hearing your next offering, which I know will be another top quality audio experience ... Have a fantastic weekend mate, and keep enjoying those late night walks around Hong Kong!!!!! 😎🎧🎵

DJ AARON JAMES

BIG LOVE man. I see you're as prolific and expressive as a writer as you are with your mixes. Which is a parallel story with me as my secondary passion besides music is writing. My little About Me section on FB says all you need to know "DJ by Occupation; Writer by Preoccupation. A Tourist Sightseeing in Being. 🙏" So we share that in common as well. And what's more ... we're both Virgos! Yup, yup August 29th. Keep doing what you're doing brotha cause you do it so well. Til the next one, have a great weekend and catch ya soon! 👻❤️

Steve James

Haha I actually studied TV production and journalism for several years at college, then I changed direction and decided to pursue music, so went to sound engineering school ... I guess I enjoy writing / talking about things. Just comes naturally, and I don't realise it! ... And what a small world! ... You're a virgo too, and born the day before me! 😂😂 ... My birthday is 30th Aug, and my son was born on 31st Aug! 😄😄 ... Now I know why you are also such a perfectionist with your mixes ... because you're a virgo and your surname is James! 😂😂 ... Hahaha small world ... My favourite rapper, Nas, is also a virgo 😄 ... Anyway bro, keep doing what you're doing, and have a fantastic weekend. I will be checking out your latest session very soon! Cheers!! 😎🎧🎵

DJ AARON JAMES

Oh and P.S. my next offering is already up and ready for ya, haha. Pass by my page when you have a moment and help kick off the debut of my new Funky Breaks and UK Bass series Breaks For Love, dedicated to, well .... my Love (who's a sexy cyborg on the Cover Art! :)). 🙏❤️🙏

DJ AARON JAMES

Wow man that's absolutely crazy! I was leaving you that Comment at the exact same time you were typing yours! What in the actual fuckity fuck. LOL. Amazing! And of course your birthday is one day after mine ... what are the chances?! Explains a lot though doesn't it? 😀🤩😀

Diego (Enios) Espanol

Perfect soundtrack for my morning Steve! That's just my kind of deep: not much "aggressive", quite smooth to let you wander with a positive mood. Maybe the part with Sultana's one and "Sunshine" my fav, but pretty hard to select just a couple of tracks (the first 2 are amazing, too and even Tilman's tunes). The whole hour is flawless: perfect vibes blended in a big way. Another remarkable set, bravo Steve! :-)

Steve James

Well look who it is!!! ... Diego are you feeling ok??! ... I think this is the first time in six months that you have not referred to me as a crook in your comment!! Hahaha 😂😂 ..... My mix must be so good that you feel too guilty to reach for your handcuffs!!! ... Perhaps you are going soft in your old age 😉 ..... Haha joking aside, I am thrilled you enjoyed this deep journey, as it's probably one of my best in the last few months ... As you said, not too aggressive ... nice beats, but with soothing melodies, and a somewhat "chilled" vibe ... Melchior Sultana's track is delicious, and a really high quality production ... Thank you as always for your generous comments, and I will be dropping by to check out your latest masterpiece very soon! ... Nice week Diego!! 😎🎧🎵

Diego (Enios) Espanol

It's true, I'm getting old, this year I'm 94 :-D, but the reason why I'm so soft with you is I've just been promoted by @stefado to Inspector, so I let the "simple officers" take care of the crooks like you! Haha :-D Don't worry, I'll find another kind nickname for you! ;-) Nice afternoon Steve!

Steve James

94??! ... You're still a young lad!!! 😄 ... So you are "Inspector Diego" now?! ... You must be loving the pay rise!! 😂😂 ... Stefado can't join the police force unfortunately. He's far too busy making hardcore techno mixes 😅

DJ Shep
DJ Shep

Well this is just perfect Steve. The track choices and some of the best mixing you will hear. The Earth Trax opener sets the tone for a lush, deep journey. In fact if you took the beats and bass out of some of these tracks they would be great ambient pieces! Love the Tilman choices and the Tape Hiss & Palms Traxx ones in particular. Again, as with all your deep house excursions they conjour up the perfect big city soundscape. Perfect this Steve - doesn’t get any better bro. 💯🔥🎵❤️🙏

Steve James

What's up Shep!! ... Well that is high praise indeed!! ... I've been enjoying the work of Earth Trax for quite some time, and it's always nice when I find the perfect set to slip in a track or two. On this particular occasion I gave Earth Trax the honour of opening AND closing my set!! 😄 ... Tilman and Palms Traxx are also class acts ... and I knew you'd enjoy the Tape Hiss track, as it had plenty of piano!! ... I agree these tracks would sound nice without beats and basslines. They would make great chillout tracks! ... Thanks again for taking the ride Shep, and I look forward to seeing what you have up your sleeve for next time! Have a great week!!!! 😎🎧🎵

Piotr Harmata Harnaś

Great Session! Congrats!🙌🙌🙌

Steve James

Thank you for tuning in Piotr!!! I'm glad you enjoyed it!!! 😎🎧🎵

DJ Gerard Proudfoot

Our man in the Far East! Steve, really enjoyed this foray into Deep House. All the tracks are seamlessly mixed and its smooth like butter!!! My favourite track is Between Worlds by Tilman but that first track also deserves mention! Keep it up!

Steve James

Good afternoon Gerard! ... I'm glad you enjoyed this deep and relaxing journey, with a slightly slower tempo than my usual deep sets ... Tilman is a fine representative of the deep sound, so it was inevitable his tracks would end up in one of my sets at some point! ... The opening track was also very lush, I have to agree! ... Thank you for tuning in mate, and I hope all is well in Dublin! Cheers! 😎🎧🎵

Aye up Stevo!!!
Was in the car for the 1st 20 mins so couldn't check the titles, but the opening track blew me away Bro......feckin gorgeous!!! 😍 And that 1st transition was just heavenly!! 👼
The rest of the set was beautifully strung together too dude - I can tell you've read, taken in and completely digested 'Comprehensive Guide To Making Better DJ Mixes' 😂😂
Seriously tho mate...I don't think mixing gets any better...it was that good! 👊
Loved the Palms Trax track 😃......stunning transition into the Melchior Sultana track, which was another Bobby Dazzler of a tune BTW!!!! 🤩 And gotta give a special mench for the Tilman - this geez is a f***in GENIUS.....DJ, producer & label owner - he simply can do no wrong in my eyes!!! 😍Love those tracks Bro!! 🎶🧡👏
Also love the way the set finished too mate - I'm a bit obsessed with how sets finish & this was perfect! 👌
So I'll say it again; hope you stay on the 'Deep House' tip for a while longer!! 🤞
Enjoy the rest of the weekend (that's if it's not finished already where you are?? 😆)
Ste 🤝😊

Steve James

The Vimto King is in the house!! ... Ah yes the opener was "L'Avventura" from Earth Trax ... a sublime track indeed, and you know I had to follow it up with some Tony Lionni ... You've probably noticed by now how many times you hear Tony's tracks in my sets. Love his production style ... I also love slipping in Melchior Sultana's music. He is a genius on the deep house tip, and one of my favourite producers ... and Tilman??! ... I had earmarked about 7 Tilman tracks for this set, and it was agonising trying to cut it down to only 2 !!!! ... No joke, I honestly could've done an entire set of his tunes, but then I would've had to change the title to "The Tilman Ten" 😂😂😂 ... Actually has a nice ring to it! ... But it was tough deciding which tracks to sideline, because all his stuff is great ... I didn't fully read the comprehensive guide to making better mixes, but I'm planning to book 4 years off work so I have time to read it 😄 ... You need your ears tested mate. Not a single transition on this was even semi acceptable. You didn't hear the kick drums galloping all over the place in a frenzied spasm of noise??! Hahahahaha 😂😂😂 .... Get your ears tested bro!!!! Haha. Joking aside, I had a quick listen back to this set after recording, and it sounded ok to me, so I uploaded it ... But this is my last deep house set for a while ... I've done 5 house sets on the bounce, one soulful and four deep, so I'm getting bored ... You know me, I like variety ... so the next set will be something different! ... I love my deep house, but 4 deep sets in a row and I feel like I've stuffed my face with pizza for 24 hours continuously ... so, time to ditch the pizza and see what else I have stashed in the fridge ...... Time for surprises again 😉 ...... Thanks again for tuning in mate, and I hope you have a fantastic week, even though January is an utterly depressing month! 😂

Stefado
Stefado

I actually don't mind January....it's Feb that grips my shit!! 😫 Well, that's a shame about moving out of Deep House, but totally understandable......I'm exactly the same Bro - only did the last one as a favour! Right dude....we better get looking for some Shallow ⛺'s ?!! 😉👋 P.S I like the sound of 'The Tilman Ten' 😆 🤜🤛🏼

Steve James

I prefer February, as I'm a glass half full kinda guy 😂 ... Think of it this way ... When February arrives, it means two of the three months of winter are already behind us, the days are getting longer, and Spring is not too far around the corner, edging closer by the day! ... Or maybe you just hate February because it involves spending money for Valentines Day! 😂😂 ... I guess that's the real reason 😉 ... Yep, so no more house from me for a while ... Gets a bit repetitive mixing the same genre all the time ... Variety is healthier!! 😎🎧🎵
