The Breakdown is an exploration of the roots of sample based music, with a focus on hip-hop. The companion radio show aired for two years on KMHD Portland 89.1 FM, Thursday evenings from 9-11. Those shows are the intellectual property of KMHD/OPB and will not be available on mixcloud. All the material posted here will be new, following and expanding upon the concept that constitutes The Breakdown. However, unlike the radio show, the music is unedited and contains no commentary. I have been DJing & creating mixes that draw the connections between the sample and it source material for 25 years. The Breakdown is the place where this all comes together.
