The Netherlands' newest ambassador of funk, Duke Hugh, has put out only two beat tapes this year, but the sheer quality and unrivalled soul on his free 18-track summer sampler gave him our undivided attention. And after seeing a possible collaboration with Olivier Daysoul not yet materialise he took the acappella's from Olivier's 'St. Louis To Madrid' EP and carved them into a variety of styles, with his future-soul and bossanova rework's being especially impressive.
Here he's compiled a vocal-heavy mix of hip-hop, funk and R&B, including a couple of his own cuts and ending with the enchanting 'Na Boca Do Sol' by Celia. An entirely unique addition to our series, Duke Hugh is certainly a 'One To Watch' in 2011 and we look forward to more of his funk-infused tapes landing in our inbox soon.
