SOB.021 Shigeto

As one of Ghostly International's most revered yet underrated artists, Shigeto has steadily built a solid catalogue of beatworks over the past few years. His Full Circle LP certainly didn't pull any punches, coming on like a tidal wave of organic hits and blown-cone bass tones, the intensity sustained throughout for what is a first-class lesson in sound design as much as it is in polyrhythmic programming.

To those who are only just discovering this young talent it is definitely worth lending an ear to his free What We Held On To EP, a more texturally mature and tender body of work showcasing Shigeto's inimitable knack for munch-able real world percussion and decaying vinyl crackle, hollowed out in the shadows.

On this mix he showcases a more classic instrumental hip-hop mentality, drawing on contemporaries Devonwho, mndsgn, Ichiro and many more for sources of neck-breaking inspiration.
