Stavros Papastavrou is a successful greek composer, who lives and works in Athens. He studied music with Alexandros Enian and Kostas Kydoniatis and piano with Frosso Protopapa, a teacher at the Athens Conservatory.
His first solo album, “Sleepless City”, was released in 1978, when he was still an engeneering student at Athens University. It comprised ten of his original compositions (music and lyrics), which he performed playing acoustic guitar, accompanied by a small group of musicians.
In 1981, internationally acclaimed greek composer Manos Hadjidakis (Oscar Award winner for his music in the film “Never on Sunday”), organized on Corfu island his 1st Greek Song Contest, where Stavros won first prize for his song “From the Beginning”. Some months later, his second solo album, “The Back Room”, was released. In that album, Stavros performed ten more of his songs and Manos Hadjidakis himself conducted the orchestra.
