1980s Throwback

Avatar

It‘s a holiday and I had some time to play my teenage (and early twen) records. Of course the passing of Tina Turner triggered this journey back into time. The music comes from records only, just like we heard the music back in the days. As a special treat I have added a rare DJ version of JAMES BROWN’s GIVE THAT BASS PLAYER SOME to this set. The Universal Music Group released this track from my record as it was lost! Isn‘t that something? Good Gawd :) Enjoy!

Tracklist

Playing tracks by Tom Browne, Randy Crawford, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Imagination and more.

A belated THANK YOU!

The mid80s and early 90s was the "crossover" period for me - from cassettes to burning discs and then downloading on the intenet. From small dance bars to discoteques and large dance clubs. Tina Turner/Aretha Franklin/Dennis Edwards & Grace Jones were all part of this period. Sade is definitely still a Smooth Operator and Love had everything to do with Tina. Randy Crawford was born in Street Life and I still have George Benson on cassett. Nothing however still surpasses the sound of vynl - thanks for this great mix of legends.

In the 1980s I mostly heard cassette tapes in the car. Maxell, TDK or BASF, but I soon gave up on these. Records are my favourite media but I also love my CD collection of maybe 4,000 discs. These are a great source for my mixes as well. This time it’s from records only (those on the photo and some more). Thank you!

Even when the SP gets commercial and plays hits, high quality is guaranteed!

I hope so and I thank you. Only sometimes I like me some pop-edged Soul and Tina Turner’s come back album PRIVATE DANCER from 1984 was a one-of-a-kind breakthrough. As a solo artist she sold out the arenas of the world.

Oh yeah, music can be that time machine and I appreciate that. Thank you!

Thanks for digging up great stuff from the ‘80s. Overlooked that nice tune from Randy Crawford. The JB song blew my mind!

The Soul Preacher

Glad to hear it! Randy & JB are fire! Thanks!
