Shades of Play is a Washington, DC–based electronic duo formed by longtime friends Derreuq and Felipe Rivera. Rooted in Midwestern Native American, Black, and South American heritage, their sound blends primal rhythm with deep house, techno, and progressive influences. As the primary DJ, Derreuq brings hypnotic energy and precision to the dance floor, while Felipe leads production, shaping their signature studio sound with experimental rhythm and genre fusion.
Since 2012, the duo has performed at venues across the U.S., including Halcyon SF, Flash DC, TBA Brooklyn, and SITH Boston, sharing lineups with artists like Kevin Yost, Anthony Attalla, Guti (Live), John Dalagelis, and Dave Seaman. Whether in the studio or on stage, Shades of Play continues to evolve—driven by rhythm, identity, and the power of connection on the dance floor.
