I was one of the few UK DJs to be on the Motown freebies list, and worked in the California Ballroom in Dunstable on Friday and Saturday nights as well as their nightclub The Devil's Den/Didoz where I found my love of soul music.
As one of the stalwarts of the Cali in the early to mid 70s I helped the place gain the nickname Soul City and worked with many of the great acts like James Brown, The Temptations, Jr Walker & The All Stars and many more. I even met Bob Marley at The Cali in 1972 when he was touring with Johnny Nash as a guest performing with The Wailers too on a handful of gigs
