Born in Chimoio, Mozambique.

Fátima Fernandes is presently living in Lisbon, Portugal where she is attending a course in photography at Atelier de Imagem.

She grew up in Mozambique graduating in Law at University Eduardo Mondlane, Maputo. She attended a Fine Art course at UNISA, South Africa. She worked as a painter in Maputo where she exhibited in group and solo shows and participated in international art events such as workshops and art residencies.

She moved to Johannesburg, South Africa in 1994 where she worked as a permanent artist at the Fordsburg Artists Foundation (The Bag Factory) http://www.bagfactoryart.org.za/ from 1999 to 2001 and participated in group shows and had solo shows in Johannesburg.

From 2006 to 2009 she lived and worked in Gaberone, Botswana keeping a studio at the Thapong Art Center http://thapongartscentre.org.bw/.

Her work is represented at the Museum of Art in Maputo and in corporate and private collections in Mozambique, South Africa and o
