Listening History

Mr. Dopa entered the DJ scene in the late 90s. While searching for the roots of hip hop he discovered funk, acid jazz and jazzdance. With the emergence of nu-jazz around '98, there was no stopping him. Mr. Dopa, then still known as DJ Davidov, felt he had to spread the word. He got his start with residencies at Huis aan de Werf and Festival aan de Werf, and was a popular guest at Utrecht cafés Het Hart, Broers and Leen, as well as clubs Tivoli, Ekko, de Helling and the Winkel van Sinkel. He also played at Dutch festivals including the NFF, Over het Ij, Summer in Nijmegen, and last but not least, Lowlands Higher Ground.
In 2006 Mr. Dopa suffered two heart attacks that left him with permanent disabilities. A couple of years later he was diagnosed with Parkinson's. Since then though, advances in digital technology have allowed him to to return to DJ-ing with renewed passion, mixing everything from funk to jazz, disco and world beats. So he is back by dope demand!
