EDM as it's known today was simply called "house music" where and when I grew up. In the Windy City we listened to cats with names like Bad Boy Bill, Julian "Jumpin" Perez and Mike "Hitman" Wilson. We hung out at clubs called McGreevey's in Niles and Medusa's in the city. Castle on Dearborn was Limelight, trance was known as "high energy" and breakbeat was "freestyle".
