Pete is a musician, writer and broadcaster, co-founder of The Big Chill, and originator of the 'boutique' festival experience.
In the mid 80s Lawrence was respected as a tastemaker when he discovered and spontaneously recorded US folk singer Michelle Shocked on a Walkman around a Texas campfire for his fledgling Cooking Vinyl label. The resulting ‘Texas Campfire Tapes’ LP, with its £1 ‘field recording’ budget, went on to top the independent album charts and establish the label.
Pete has arguably been one of the most influential and respected tastemakers, and made his BBC Radio 2 debut in 2006 with a two hour chill out show. After spending ten years building the www.campfireconvention.network he is now giving birth to the Making Hay festival with his wife-to-be Lizi Sage.
2027 will see the release of Pete's first album in 21 years, 'This Is The Fire' new songs of protest, hope and connection, written by Pete to be sung in community.
