Began DJing in Birmingham in 1977 at Bournville College when I complained the music in the bar was no good! Two cassette recorders were used then. Glam Rock, 70s Funk, nascent Punk and pop were heard.
Began working at Top Rank, Birmingham in 1978. A 17-year-old DJ in an Over 25s club! Pop nights, disco nights and MOD nights! Hello Stevie French, Jim Roberts, Dan Phillips.
Moved to Pollyanna's and created a Mod dynasty for six nights a week in 1979-80-ish. Hello Andy Wint.
1980-1982 were spent at Faces, Birmingham, with Steve Dennis (followed by Jon Alsop), playing the best New Romantic, New Wave, Glam Rock - - anything that wasn't funky, soul-y, I guess! Worked with the likes of Heaven 17, Bill Nelson, Wham!, Rick James (!), ABC and more in that time, and moonwalked with Jeffrey Daniel of Shalamar - long before MJ did it! (British Discotheque of the Year 1981 and 1982, by the way).
Jan. 13th 1983 saw Oslo with Bacchus Discotheques and thus began three decades-plus of overseas DJing
