December 1994—the day after my 9th birthday.
There’s a boombox at my feet, antenna stretched to the sky, blank cassette tapes to my left, radio dial tuned in. The intro of my new favorite song begins playing as I hit the record button on my most cherished birthday gift.
That day, unbeknownst to me, a DJ was born.
I've been at this thing—sharing my love of music with people—for just shy of two decades. In the 90s, the likes of Fatboy Slim, Daft Punk, Prince, and OutKast graced my headphones. In recent years, I've drawn inspiration from artists like the late DJ AM, Girl Talk, 2manydjs, A-Trak, and the rest of the Kuhl crew.
What started with a boombox and blank tapes has led me to turntables and dance floors from the Midwest to Puerto Rico and back.
I'm oh so grateful for this ride, and equally grateful to offer some stimulation for your ear drums. Thanks for listening.
