Born Jose S. Gutierrez Jr. in Hayward, California and raised in Pacoima, California before moving to Tacoma and settling in Olympia, Washington as a child, Luvva J is an award-winning, Billboard charting (Hip-Hop/Rap & Electronic Dance Music/Pop) DJ, MC, writer, producer, manager and entrepreneur. Aided by his mother (a pop-locker from Watts, CA in the ‘70s) and sister (a B-Girl and enterpriser), Luvva J would grow up in the midst of the influence of education, entertainment and entrepreneurship as well as Hip-Hop culture. He established himself as an award-winning and nationally recognized scholar-athlete and business man at a young age – working notably in arenas of TV/film production/directing, Radio, the recording industry and higher education. .

Luvva J would proceed to pursue his passions of education, business, media and more having hosted Live From I-5 Radio (syndicated on various stations, currently broadcasting out of WTLC Radio & KAOS FM) since 1989 as well
