As one of the original DJs from the Midwest rave scene in the early 90s, I've had an interesting vantage point to witness the evolution of our beloved house music. Over my 25 years of experience behind the decks, I've always strived to stay true to 3 key tenets: play from your heart; take your audience on a journey with every mix; and while technical proficiency is something I value, the raw emotion and ability to make someone move trumps everything else, period. I’ve had the pleasure to share the DJ booth with some true legends, including Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, and Miles Maeda. These influences (among others) have shaped my journey, then and now. I gravitate to the rawness and comfort of my original inspiration: Chicago house. But at the end of the day, my muse cannot be pigeonholed by categories derived by the media. If it’s “in the pocket,” and has that certain groove that moves me, then it’s on.
