For Jay Bacall, with roots in Hackney, an area rich in culture and diversity, gaining musical influence was never going to be hard. With his father and two uncles in the business there were plenty of people to help mould his musical tastes exposing him genres such as Disco, Motown, electronic Synth Pop and Ska.
A regular raver and avid pirate radio fan of the 80’s and 90’s Jay wanted to get more involved and so began his DJ ambitions. After six months of playing his US style house music to his bedroom walls Jay achieved his first gig for Raindance – the UKs first legal rave.
A successful set led to bookings at some of London’s iconic venues such as Madam Jojos, Paradise Club, Wag, and Leisure Lounge and finally at his then much-loved venue the Ministry of Sound for their own US house night Rulin’.
In more recent times Jay’s sound has evolved and whilst still playing house also pulls on other genres such as techno, indie dance and deep house.
