General Smiley began his career in the late 70's at Studio One under the direction of the late Sir Coxsone Dodd. The duo Papa Michigan and General Smiley recorded their first number one hit, "Rub a Dub Style" followed by "Nice up the Dance." Michigan and Smiley gave a dynamic performance at the annual Reggae Sunsplash Festival in 1981, which let to a debut appearance in the UK where they topped the bill at the Black Echoes Reggae Awards Show. Through out the 80's Michigan and Smiley sustained attention in the album charts worldwide. The duo enjoyed a revival in the 90's when some of their earlier hits resurfaced through VP records in the USA. General Smiley has since completed three solo cds entitled "Aim Goal Plan" which was recorded at the Kingston Studio, produced by Jillian Wess for Upful One Records, "Stages" produced by General Smiley for his own RuffCompany Records and "General Smiley Meets McPullish at Dub Cove" produced by McPullish for Charlies Records ATX
