eSports (Ep. 11)
It might be hard to believe but professional video gaming, also known as eSports is on the rise—tremendously.
In fact, you might not know this but eSports viewership is set to surpass both the NFL and Formula 1 by 2020. The biggest proponent of this has been the ease of online streaming and a huge gaming fan base. Twitch.tv, the largest online game streaming service, boasts 16 billion minutes watched with 100 million unique users per month in 2014—astronomical numbers.
The largest games in the eSports space, DOTA2 and League of Legends, have enormous player and fan bases, with major tournaments around the world. The DOTA2 International Compendium—it's annual world championship, currently has a winnings pot of $18,000,000 and growing. This is why it isn't crazy to see why advertisers are flocking to the space, and why next year you might see select eSport events on Turner Broadcasting.
This week we have an awesome guest on the show, Cel Arrington, founder of Skill Capped—the online game
