Drones (Ep. 8)

Drones are here and they're here to stay.
In fact, the FAA expects over 1 million drones to be sold this holiday season alone. The only problem with drones so far is that there hasn't been a system in place to regulate what you can and can't do with them. The FAA has only just begun to implement regulations on drone operators. In fact, earlier this month, the FAA chose to make an example out of drone startup, SkyPan International by fining them $1.9 million for allegedly conducting 65 unauthorized flights.
In 2012, Congress mandated the FAA to put in regulations for commercial drone use by September 30th, 2015. It's now October, and those regulations haven't been fully set, but that hasn't stopped companies filing for the FAA Exemption 333. This exemption allows them to fly small drones commercially under a set of rules—some of which include flying no more than 500ft max and drone payloads being under 55lbs. As of now, over 1800 companies and organizations have received their exemption
