Firuz' background is as exotic as his music. He was born and raised in his father's native country of Tajikistan. His gene pool is truly exotic, a real goulash of ancient civilizations and modern tribes. On his mother's side there's Russian, Ukranian and Greek blood, where as his father's side are descendants of an ancient Persian royal dynasty.
Firuz grew up in the mountainous region of Gorno Badakhshan surrounded by the Pamir mountains, some of the tallest in the world. The area borders Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and China. The Pamir population speaks ancient Persian languages unique to this world and has survived in their mountainous stronghold in spite of being in a troubled region. This mixture of civilizations has created a truly unique culture.
Key to the Pamir culture is music and dance. Any excuse is used to take out the drums and string instruments, such as the indiginous rubab, to create great tunes. Everybody joins in and soon you have a veritable jamfest with the entire
