Banshee Howl

this mix was played for the Halloween Masquerade at Dallas Movement Collective, and it's a really different, specific kind of set from me.

i was really inspired by the irish legend of the bean sídhe, or banshees as we've come to know them. banshees are female spirits who live in mounds of earth in the countryside and foretell death with their distinctive screams. these death omens intrigued me as a metaphor for female grief and dread, and felt like a properly spooky approach to a halloween set.

the set starts out in this dark, scary, spooky place, and moves into a more fun, energetic, and nostalgic energy. i like my halloween sets to encompass the things i think are most fun about halloween: the safe exploration of fear, feeling like a kid again, and the rushes of sugar and staying up late!
