Ujima Radio 98FM celebrates Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago 50 years of Independence of independence this August 2012 by teaming up with young people 17-25 in our community to celebrate this important historical milestone. Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), “Dub Plate to Dub Step” will be a youth led heritage radio show, film and website resource that will explore Caribbean and Jamaican music and cultural stories from the past 50 years and how these have influenced and shaped Bristol.
We are offering young people the opportunity to research and discover cultural and music trends starting with the vinyl Dub Plates produced in famous recording studio “Studio One, Jamaica in the late1950’s, tracing these early Reggae & Dub Sound System classics through to the Grime and Dub Step artists of 2012.
