"DOS.putin," was an alias from the late '90s to mid-2010s. Known prior as Jø, During a '97 studio session in S.F. Jø was composing beats for a Hip-hop act, his appearance—long hair and a full beard, reminiscent of the enigmatic Russian mystic Rasputin—caught the attention of two MCs. They riffed on the mystical appearance and the arcane DOS software used for music production, coining the nickname DOS 'putin. Jø dug this moniker, later stylizing such as DØS.pütin, etc.
An enthusiastic collector and DJ of Electronic, Jazz, Funk, and R&B vinyl from the mid-'80s, Johanness finds inspiration from legendary figures of synth music such as, Bernie Worrell, George Duke, and David Frank. His musical creations and DJ sets aim to reflect the nuanced impact of technology on music through the ages. Continually experimenting and exploring, Johanness is on a perpetual quest to discover untapped potentials in the realms of vintage computer and synthesizer music.
