Working within the music industry in multiple roles for the past 30+ years, DJ Smash aka Smash Hunter (born Wayne Hunter) has travelled many roads ; DJ, remixer, programmer, graphic illustrator, recording engineer, label founder, A&R, compilation producer and recently, mentor for upcoming independent artists attempting to make their way in the ever-changing music industry.
Raised in Brooklyn, he learned the art of djing by watching more experienced DJs perform in parks and block parties, masterfully working the crowds and sound system.
Smash muses "ultimately, my greatest lesson was learning to observe and read different audiences and play the right tune at the best possible moment".
As a budding DJ and producer, was primarily influenced by R&B, Funk, Reggae / Calypso, Disco, Hip Hop, early Techno and House.
Smash has shared the bill and stage with Gilles Peterson, Norman Jay, François K, Danny Krivit, King Britt, Nicodemus, Miguel Migs, and many others.
