I been a DJ in the San Francisco Bay Area for more than 30 years. I started in 1987 during the boom of the mobile DJ scene with some friends who were doing it too. They taught me how to mix and being that I was in music at school since elementary I was able to grasp and learn it easily.
When we all first started DJing we did garage/house parties, cotillions, and school dances. We even had the honor to be a part of some battles and showcases.
I remember when I first saw a DJ and heard a mix I knew right away that I wanted to do it. I had a passion for it and I enjoyed it. It also feels good when you know that you are making people happy with something that you are doing.
Today, I still have the same passion for it that I did more than 30 years ago and I still enjoy it. I compare it like learning how to play the guitar and enjoying and having a passion for it, but in this case it's mixing and skratching! 😃
