I learned of DJing when I was ~12 years old (1990), My brother was ~17. He was digging for old soul records with Seth Roehl at Dick Vivian's Rooky Ricardos Records in the Lower Haight.
Fast forward a couple of years, at the age of 15 I tell my father I want to get Technics 1200s. He tells me to get a job. I do. By the end of the summer I purchased my first 1200 and a Gemini Scratchmaster. My idea was to get good enough to play my way through college (nobody else was gonna pay). At the age of 18 I start to play little bars and clubs in SF (111 Minna, Brainwash). This is 1996 and everyone else in San Francisco is a DJ. Competition was fierce and I was rarely paid for club gigs but mobile gigs (i.e. weddings, school dances) always paid well. In 2000 I met DJ Escobar and joined the SBC DJs. In 2003 I went off to finish my degree at UCSD. I published my 4th mixtape in 2005 and have been a hobby DJ since finishing school.
