Born and raised in Detroit Michigan; the home of Motown Music taught DJ Zinn an appreciation for all genres of music. Zinn’s love of music and friendly mid-west demeanor landed him in the DJ booth at Maui’s finest club of it’s day “Maui Brews” in 1998 with his trainer and mentor DJ Alek; himself, voted “Maui DJ of the year 2001 – Maui Time Magazine”. It was here that Zinn soaked up the lessons on technical DJ skills (yes, he started with vinyl), as well as reading the crowd and dance floor rotation. “I remember Alek had me running the lights and taking notes about what he played and the effect it had on the entire club,” says Zinn. As Zinn’s skill level grew, he would be asked to pick and mix the next song, then it was an entire genre specific set and eventually Zinn earned his own residence night. “I remember the praise I received after one particularly smooth and timely mix into Prince’s Erotic City; Alek said, ‘Zinn, you are ready!’”
