8 FADER mixes defining the moment

The FADER is a storied music and culture publication with a potent mix series that peeks into the worlds of today’s most popular artists.

FADER

Few music publications have their finger on the pulse quite like The FADER. Since its founding in 1999, the magazine has built a reputation for spotting talent before the world catches up. Nowhere is that instinct more alive than in the FADER Mix series. “The FADER has a unique legacy of highlighting the next wave of culture across our entire editorial platform,” says Tobias Hess, the magazine’s Associate Editor. “The FADER Mix series is a strong example: Arca released a FADER Mix in 2012, Flume in 2013, Yaeji in 2018. The list goes on!

After a four year hiatus that left fans of the series hungry for more, the mixes are back. With them comes a fresh roster of artists that feel like tomorrow’s headliners today. “When I was tasked with helping to re-launch the series, I was excited to select artists who are carving out careers with longevity and influence,” Hess tells Mixcloud.

“I’m super proud of how we’re encapsulating this moment in music. From commissioning 1morning — who has gone from spinning vinyl in the Los Angeles underground to playing major festivals across Europe — to hosting the first mix for PinkPantheress’s DJ, DJ Joe. As well as working with Montreal electronic artist and poet, Marie Davidson. I think these artists are shaping the music world of today and will continue to have a huge impact.”

We asked The FADER team to share some of the standout mixes from the series — new and old. Scroll down to hear more.

FADER Mix: 1morning

“Let there be House music,” says the defiant voice that ushers in 1morning’s FADER Mix, the first from the magazine since 2021. A statement if there ever was one. A true disciple of House, Los Angeles-based 1morning has been gathering pace the last couple of years. Thanks, in large part, to memorable sets for platforms like HÖR and Resident Advisor. Not to mention the LA and New York party circuit. His FADER Mix feels like a summer party, breezy and sun-kissed with percussive Techno, dancey Funk and hypnotic vocals. A mighty return for The FADER!

FADER Mix: GRRL

Intense isn’t the word to describe GRRL’s FADER Mix, but it’s pretty close. Signed to the revolutionary PC Music, GRRL traverses the club with purpose. He presents hybrids of Pop, Techno and Rave for something that will rattle against your body. With an over 10-year residency at NTS, he’s built a loyal fanbase for his increasingly daring soundscapes. The proof is in his mix, which darts with a few tracks from his recent project, Beetle. It can be likened to a sweaty night at Berghain in its beautiful abrasiveness.

FADER Mix: Marie Davidson

Montreal’s very own Marie Davidson is a firm FADER favourite, with her 2025 album City of Clowns named as one of the publication’s very best of the year. The musician and poet brings sounds into her orbit at will, whether it’s from the biggest artists on the planet or an up and comer. In her mix, Davidson weaved through The Weeknd, Lana Del Rey, KAVARI and more. She offers an inside scoop into her musical mind and boundaries (or lack thereof.)

FADER Mix: DJ Joe

From viral sensation to touring DJ, DJ Joe has made it big in a short time. Also known as Joe Liao, he is PinkPantheress’ tour DJ and has a wide-ranging taste palette, reflected in his very first mix. There are jittery tones, stomping industrial colours and experimentation across genres and styles. Expect some Post-Punk, Techno and more.

FADER Mix: Jump Source

Priori and Patrick Holland make up Jump Source. They concoct super hypnotic, almost Trance-like bangers for the digital age, finished off with some Pop sensibilities for unpredictable vibes. The Canadian duo supplied a cozy mix built for chilling in your living room on a freezing day, a mood that The Great White North is famously known for.

FADER Mix: Qrion

Taking it back to 2014, The FADER welcomed Japanese DJ and producer Qrion for a session. At the time, she was hot off the heels of her collab with Ryan Hemsworth, ‘Every Square Inch,’ and has since gone from strength to strength, dropping her debut album I Hope It Lasts Forever in 2021. Her FADER mix is ambience personified, where ethereal vocals meets deep syncopation. Something to soundtrack a walk through the forest on a cloudy day.

FADER Mix: Doss

Staying in 2014, New York-based artist and DJ Doss had just dropped her self-titled EP, a release that The FADER called “a candy necklace on a rainy day.” Sounds sweet! Doss is known for her syrupy club tunes and angelic vocal motifs, and these are on full display in her mix. There’s some Classic House, glitchy Hyperpop-esque elements and a lot of fun packed into 35 minutes.

FADER Mix: Zaytoven

When it comes to Hip-Hop production, Zaytoven is modern-day royalty. Having produced for the likes of Future, Migos, Travis Scott, Gucci Mane, Usher and many more, he’s played a part in the genre’s dominance of pop culture over the last decade and change. The Atlanta native blessed The FADER with a half-hour medley of the biggest songs he’s produced, and it will leave you breathless. Mixed by his buddy DJ Showtime, this mix is trappy and infectious, booming with 808s and finesse.
