Cinema Hearts wants you to check out these DJs and radio stations

Rock fanatic, musician and DJ Cinema Hearts bigs up her fellow creators, powered by our new recommendation feature, Spotlights.

Cinema Hearts Spotlights

If you want to show some love to DJs and radio stations you feel deserve more recognition, we’ve released a feature called Spotlights. It allows you to highlight the creators you follow and share them on your profile. You can select up to 10 profiles via your For You Page and even leave a personalised note about why you’re into them. Your ringing endorsement then reaches your followers, allowing them to discover new mixes and creators while helping your favourites gain more exposure. We’re excited to dig into your recommendations!

Over in Washington, Cinema Hearts has built a rocktastic community around her. Channelling her DJ sets and music towards everything from Surf Pop to Cambodian Rock, she reveals the many shapes and forms Rock music has taken around the world. We asked Cinema Hearts to share her top three Spotlights, read on for her selections.

Raven-Lunachick

Based in Nashville, Raven-Lunachick is one of the most prolific Mixclouders around. With nearly 500 shows, she explores the realms of Rock, Punk, Psychedelic, Folk, Synthpop, Indie and Alternative. She leaves no stone unturned when it comes to guitar music, and does a great job of showcasing the range the genre has to offer. “Raven-Lunachick creates these amazing playlists,” Cinema Hearts says. “The vibe is 1950s and 1960s deep cuts. We have some girl groups, some Rockabilly, Garage Rock. You name it, she’s got it!”

Bob Boilen

At this point, Bob Boilen is musical and cultural royalty in the modern day. He is the brains behind NPR’s Tiny Desk concert series which has been graced by the biggest names in present day music across genres. Not only that, his book Your Song Changed My Life contains commentary from the likes of Jimmy Page, Smokey Robinson and more. Weighty! His weekly radio show on TakomaRadio showcases Rock music old and new, so tune in if you’re ready for an education.

“Did you know Bob Boilen is still on the radio?” wonders Cinema Hearts. “The former NPR, ‘All Songs Considered’ and Tiny Desk concert creator has a Mixcloud channel. Bob hosts ‘My Tiny Morning Show’ in Takoma Park, Maryland; check it out!”

Eaton Radio

With bases in North America and Asia, Eaton Radio entertains enthusiastic listeners worldwide. Empowering grassroots narratives, the station gives a platform to the stories and sounds that have yet to be told. Because of this, you can expect anything on any given broadcast. Boasting the likes of Tromac, KILLR FLOWR and DJ Tim Cook as residents, Eaton is always on the pulse.

This selection holds some sentimental value for Cinema Hearts. “Eaton Radio was the station that gave me my start [in radio],” she reminisces. “Eaton is based in downtown D.C., at the Eaton hotel, and they feature creators from all over the DMV region.”

Who do you think more people should be listening to? Use Mixcloud’s Spotlights feature to recommend creators to your followers.
