Ancestral rhythms follow us everywhere we go. From Rock music lending from the chord progressions of Blues to Grime expanding the MC-led energy of Dancehall, every musical movement has a sonic tradition guiding its course.
In the present day, artists and DJs are bridging those generations, re-centering forgotten sounds on the dance floor and reshaping how we hear the world. With this spirit in mind, we recently launched our Ancestral Rhythms competition for the chance to win a free lifetime Mixcloud Pro subscription. We wanted to hear a mix or radio show from you that connects the music of where you are in the world to its original, folk sounds.
We’re pleased to announce that the winner of the competition is ju.st.mean! The Germany-based DJ created a mix rooted in the spirit of the Balkans. She explored the idea of healing through sound and time. You can listen below.
