The Beaming Eye: 2025 Indie Synth and Postpunk Favorites (signal and pulse)

“[S]he stood for some moments gazing at the sisters, with affection beaming in one eye, and calculation shining out of the other.”
― Charles Dickens , Martin Chuzzlewit

Twenty 2025 indie synth and postpunk tracks in English, French, German, and other languages. Some lean popward, others toward artier or noisier terrain. The music is bright and alert, driven by pulse and intention, at times warm, at times distant.

This is ninth in a series of ten mixes of 2025 favorites. The selections reflect a personal, exploratory approach to discovery and curation, with artists and tracks that fall outside typical “best of” lists.

The mix is timestamped and the tracklist is in a comment.

Wonderful opening:) Apart from Saeko Killy, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Deradoorian and Cosey Fanni Tutti all the artists are new to me - so thanks for all the introductions!

Vodem

So glad you found stuff that peaked your interest! Thanks for listening!

Arik Grier

@Vodem piqued

Arik Grier

@arik-grier it’s about spice/prick rather than height/peak

Vodem

@arik-grier LOL. I knew that, of course. Had a mental processing error!

Arik Grier

@Vodem piqued as in picante, prick, is the standard usage, tho peaked makes sense too

Really interesting mix; I really appreciate how you're able to pull these songs from all corners of the world into such a coherent and insightful show. I've also really been enjoying Discovery Zone lately, so it was fun to see them pop up at the end.

Vodem

Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, my mode of discovery has plugged me into a lot of international labels, and I don't mind not understanding lyrics, so I've definitely been into making these transnational connections on my mixes.

Cool Water

@Vodem That's next level stuff, Vodem. It can be so hard to break out of the English language bubble - even finding the resources can be such a challenge. Seems like you hit a jackpot; I'm so glad you have this platform to share what you've discovered.

Arik Grier

I second the "coherent" comment!

Iso Brown

The Sick Man Of Europe album is mesmerising. Thank you, Leaf Records!!!

Arik Grier

Yes Sick Man of Europe. Iso, you've heard a whole album? I'll have to look it up...

Iso Brown

@arik-grier I even bought the vinyl in red edition

Porch FM

So good! Thanks for these 2025 mixes, Vodem. This one's top of the pile so far! Fantastic stuff!

Vodem

Glad it resonates! Thanks so
much for joining me on the journey with these mixes!

Jimebenhoh

Māori language AND urban planning! I feel seen!

Vodem

Oh yeah!

Arik Grier

Jim!

I've hit my replay limit : ( (and maybe also my reply limit, if you're tired of so many little comments that don't say much other than "I'm enjoying this")

Vodem

The replays reset every week, so don't worry -- I definitely appreciate the dedication to hit that limit! And there is definitely no limit on comments -- love them.

Arik Grier

YES!

This song reminds me that we've just watched Twin Peaks for the first time in our lives, about halfway thru the second season

Vodem

Hah! I can definitely see that. I liked the first season a lot, the second season less, and I really disliked Fire Walk With Me, even though lots of TP fans love it the most. And I found the most recent reboot--forget what it was called--unwatchable.

Arik Grier

Turns out Georgia also played this today at work

Vodem

Love that she plays them at work! What do her co-workers think?

Arik Grier

awesome keyboard solo!
