Nightwalking: A Contemplative Indie Compilation for Nocturnal Wanderings

I made this compilation for a friend who likes to take long walks at night. The mood is contemplative, mostly melancholy, and exquisitely beautiful. The tracks can largely be described as indie pop, folk, or electronica. The cover image is a 1909 illustration by Arthur Rackham for a volume of Grimm's Fairy Tales.

"Any serious flaneur walks by night as much as by day; for by day it's too easy to be drawn into a complacent acceptance of normalcy. ... by night [familiar sights become] shape-shifters, capable of defeating our expectations. They may assume the faces of loved ones, and so effortlessly enforce intimacy - or seem strange to the point of being alien, and so provoke repulsion. We may fancy ourselves rational and civilised, yet immediately beyond the sodium firelight, the wolves are always pacing the paving stones." (Will Self: The pleasures of night walking, http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/columnists/will-self/will-self-the-pleasures-of-night-walking-450328.html)

Tracklist

Playing tracks by Robyn Hitchcock, Cate Le Bon, Courtney Barnett, Phosphorescent, Julianna Barwick and more.
