Until recently, I didn't really know the work of Chico Freeman. Then I bumped into this record with a high Miami Vice feel. When I saw Wynton Marsalis, Bobby Hutcherson, Cecil McBee and Paulinho Da Costa played on the same record, I decided to take it home. There I was immediately struck by the sound and feeling of Chico Freeman. I had to know more!
This mix is the result of my exploration. From spiritual to swing to folky and spacey, Freeman mastered it all. So, I'm really happy I could share this during the International Jazz Day marathon on Ness Radio. It was followed by a Freeman tribute by Mo' Jazz, who had the same idea. Cosmic coincidence! Keep an eye on his profile: https://www.mixcloud.com/DubbelDee/
Thanks to all the selectors that created mixes for IJD on Ness Radio. The love was oozing from my speakers.
