The second take-over during this global lockdown presents us with a rich set of African Jazz. It takes us from South Africa through Nigeria and Ethiopia, all the way to Egypt. Expect irresistible songs featuring often unsung heroes such as Dudu Pukwana, the South African saxophone player. Giants like Tony Allen (in the picture) also leave their mark on the mix.
This take-over was compiled by Jeff Caltabiano from the Sonny Rollins Bridge Project. This project seeks to rename the Williamsburg Bridge in New York to commemorate Sonny Rollins' musical sabbatical there from 1959-1961. For more information on this fascinating project and a PETITION, visit the website: http://sonnyrollinsbridge.net
Thanks to Jeff for his deep dig and the inspiring conversations springing from this mix. Thank you as well to Ness Radio (Morocco) and Radio RapTz (France) for airing the show.
A new Jazz Hangout will be out next week!
In the meanwhile stay safe and enjoy the music.
