DJ Kay Slay: The Drama King of Hip Hop

Born Keith Grayson on August 14, 1966, in NYC, DJ Kay Slay was a pivotal figure in hip hop, earning the title "The Drama King" for his raw, street-driven mixtapes. Starting as a graffiti artist in the 1980s, he transitioned to DJing, shaping the New York hip hop scene for over three decades.

Kay Slay gained fame through groundbreaking mixtapes that introduced rising stars alongside legends. As a Hot 97 radio host, he championed authenticity and sparked key cultural conversations. Also a producer, he worked with icons like Nas and Jay-Z, bridging hip hop generations.

A mentor and advocate for the streets, his impact went beyond music. Tragically, he passed on April 17, 2022, but his legacy as a hip hop icon remains timeless.
